City of West Hollywood General Municipal Election
DATE OF ELECTION - Tuesday, March 3, 2015
Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
POSITIONS FOR ELECTION: City Council Three (3) seats
John D’Amico, John Heilman, Abbe Land
Term of Office: Four - year terms beginning March 2015 – March 2019
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must be 18 years of age, a Citizen of the United States, and a registered voter residing within the City limits at the time nomination papers are issued.
NOMINATION PERIOD: Opens: Monday, November 10, 2014
(Please note that Tuesday, November 11 City Hall is closed in observance of Veteran’s Day).
Closes: Friday, December 5th, unless an incumbent does not file, then the period is extended to Wednesday, December 10th.
NOMINATION PAPERS AND / OR CANDIDATE’S HANDBOOKS: If you are interested in running for City Council please contact the City Clerk’s Office at the City of West Hollywood (323-848- 6409) in early November to schedule an appointment to receive your nomination papers and review all required deadlines for becoming an official candidate on the March 3, 2015 Ballot.
Documents will be available on the first day of the nomination period,
Monday, November 10th. “Pulling” nomination papers will take approximately 45 minutes, so an appointment is requested.
City Clerk’s Office hours are: Monday through Thursday –8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
COST: There is no cost to be issued nomination papers, receive a Candidate’s Handbook, which is provided free to all persons considering becoming a candidate, nor is there a fee to file nomination papers. A candidate may choose to submit a candidate’s statement, free of charge.
CAMPAIGN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS: If you plan to raise or spend any money during your campaign, please review the City’s Election and Campaign Information in the West Hollywood Municipal Code. In addition, prior to raising or spending any funds for your campaign you must file a Candidate Intention Statement (Form 501) with the West Hollywood City Clerk’s Office. Within 10 days of receiving $1000 or more in campaign contributions, you must file a Statement of Organization (Form 410). This form must be filed with the Secretary of State, and a copy must be filed with the West Hollywood City Clerk’s Office.

COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Special or adjourned City Council meetings may be held as needed.
MAYOR: The Mayor is appointed every year on a rotational basis by the City Council.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, the City of West Hollywood will hold a Special Municipal Election. This will allow the Citizens of West Hollywood to elect one (1) member to the City Council to fill the current vacancy.
